Terms of use
By using Idle Autos you agree to these terms. The short version: be honest about your car, be respectful in the community, do not break Canadian law on or off the platform. The longer version follows.
Who we are
Idle Autos is operated by Alex Maxey, sole proprietor, based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Contact: hi@idle.autos.
Eligibility
You must be 18 or older. By creating an account you confirm you meet this requirement.
Marketplace listings
- You may list a vehicle, part, wheel, tune file, or service for sale only if you are the legitimate owner or authorized agent.
- All listings must include accurate make, model, year, mileage, condition, modification history (if applicable), and price.
- Stolen vehicles, vehicles with active liens you have not disclosed, and salvage-titled vehicles that have not been disclosed as such are prohibited.
- Modifications that make a vehicle non-road-legal in Ontario must be disclosed in the listing description.
- Dealer listings must include all-in pricing per Section 52 of the Motor Vehicle Dealers Act, 2002. Idle Autos is not a registered dealer and does not act as an agent for any dealer.
Community rules
- No content promoting or glorifying street takeovers, illegal street racing, public-road burnouts, or other dangerous unlawful driving.
- No harassment, slurs, doxxing, or threats against members, vendors, or the operator.
- No spam, no off-topic commercial promotion outside of the verified vendor program.
- No fake reviews, no synthetic identities, no AI-generated comments posted under a member's name. Reviews tied to verified transactions only.
- Track-day content, dyno data, sanctioned-event coverage, and build progress are welcome.
Founder badge and group tags
- The Founder badge is granted to the first 500 members on a first-come basis. The badge is permanent and does not transfer.
- The Founder badge is revoked only for serious Terms-of-Use violations. The slot is burned, not re-issued.
- Group tags are self-selected within constraints set by each group's founder. Offensive tags, trademark squatting, and impersonation are not permitted.
Vendor agreement (summary)
- Free tier: directory listing, required member discount, ongoing community participation.
- Spotlight (CAD 400 per month): pinned recommendation post, Lead Radar slots, newsletter mention.
- Featured Partner (CAD 1500 per month): Founder operator-written post, category exclusivity for the month, full Lead Radar.
- Founding Partner pricing (CAD 400 and CAD 1200 per month) is honoured for the first five paying vendors in perpetuity.
- Vendor disputes are resolved by the operator with the right of refusal on continued participation.
Content ownership and licensing
You retain ownership of the photos, text, and listing information you publish on Idle Autos. By posting, you grant Idle Autos a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to display, archive, and use your content for platform operation, the Sunday Issue editorial newsletter, marketing of the platform, and the permanent sold-archive feature. You can request removal of content under the Privacy notice.
Account suspension and termination
The operator may suspend or terminate any account that violates these terms or Canadian law. Public listings and comments from terminated accounts will be soft-deleted (replaced with a "removed" placeholder) within 14 days.
Disclaimers
Idle Autos is a platform for private sellers, private buyers, and verified vendors to connect. We do not inspect vehicles, broker transactions, or guarantee accuracy of seller-provided information. You are responsible for your own due diligence, including independent inspection, lien search, and verification of mileage and modification history.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by Canadian law, Idle Autos and its operator are not liable for direct, indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the platform, transactions between members, or actions of any vendor. Your sole remedy for dissatisfaction is to stop using the platform.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the applicable laws of Canada. Disputes are resolved in the courts of Toronto, Ontario.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the platform evolves. Material changes will be announced at the top of the page and in the Sunday Issue. Continued use after a change constitutes acceptance.
